Family law business valuation in Canberra

Family Law Valuations provides business valuations for separating couples and family lawyers in Canberra and the surrounding region. The practice is based in Sydney and has no premises in the Australian Capital Territory: engagements are run remotely, from the business records and conversations with the owner. The fees are the same in every state and territory: a Settlement Valuation is $2,495 + GST and a Family Law Expert Valuation is $4,495 + GST, both fixed and confirmed in writing before work starts.

How a Canberra engagement runs

Remotely: a conflict check, a written scope and fixed fee, a document checklist, the analysis, a draft for factual review, then the final report. Canberra and Sydney keep the same time all year, so the published phone hours, 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (Sydney time), are the same hours in Canberra.

Clients who would rather meet can do so by appointment at the practice's Sydney address, 377 New South Head Road, Double Bay NSW 2028. A meeting is optional and does not change the fee.

Which court hears a Canberra family law matter

Family law property matters in the Australian Capital Territory are heard by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, which sits in Canberra. The Family Law Act 1975 is Commonwealth legislation, so the framework is the same as in New South Wales.

A Settlement Valuation is prepared for negotiation and mediation. A Family Law Expert Valuation is prepared for proceedings. Your lawyer will advise which your matter needs, and the report finder gives an indicative starting point.

Businesses that depend on contracts and on the owner

Consultancies and professional practices whose income rests on a small number of contracts, and on the owner personally, raise a particular question: what would transfer to a purchaser and what would leave with the owner. A valuer tests that from the contracts, the client concentration and who actually does the work. Goodwill and owner dependence explains the approach.
