Family law business valuation in Perth

Family Law Valuations provides business valuations for separating couples and family lawyers in Perth and across Western Australia. The practice is based in Sydney and has no premises in Western Australia: engagements are run remotely, from the business records and conversations with the owner. The fees are the same in every state and territory: a Settlement Valuation is $2,495 + GST and a Family Law Expert Valuation is $4,495 + GST, both fixed and confirmed in writing before work starts.

Western Australia has its own family court

Western Australia is the one state with its own family court. Family law matters there are heard by the Family Court of Western Australia, a state court, whose registry is at 150 Terrace Road, Perth. Elsewhere in Australia they are heard by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

For a valuer the work is the same: identify the interest and the date, normalise the earnings, assess the goodwill and how far it depends on the owner, and explain the conclusion. What can differ is the procedure, including the rules for expert evidence and the legislation that applies to a de facto relationship. Which rules apply to your matter is a question for your Western Australian lawyer, and we work to the instructions the lawyers settle.

How a Perth engagement runs

Remotely: a conflict check, a written scope and fixed fee, a document checklist, the analysis, a draft for factual review, then the final report.

The time difference matters more than the distance. Sydney is two hours ahead of Perth for most of the year and three hours ahead from early October to early April. The published phone hours, 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (Sydney time), are 6am to 4pm in Perth for most of the year and 5am to 3pm during those months, so a morning call from Perth is the easiest to arrange. The call-back form lets you say when to ring.

If the valuer is needed at a Perth hearing

Where a Family Law Expert Valuation is tested at a hearing and the expert is required to attend, attendance is charged separately from the fixed fee: remote attendance is $650 + GST per hour, four-hour minimum, and attendance in person in Perth is $6,500 + GST per day, plus travel and accommodation at cost. Knowing that cost before the report is commissioned is part of choosing a valuer in another state, which is why it is published on the fees page.

Do you have an office in Perth?

No. Family Law Valuations has one address, in Double Bay, Sydney. Western Australian engagements are run remotely by phone and document exchange.

Can a valuer outside Western Australia prepare a report for a Western Australian matter?

A business valuation is built from the records, so the analysis does not depend on where the valuer is based. Whether a particular valuer is suitable for a matter before the Family Court of Western Australia, and what that court requires of an expert report, are questions for your lawyer. We review proposed instructions before accepting an engagement.

How much does a family law business valuation cost in Perth?

$2,495 + GST for a Settlement Valuation and $4,495 + GST for a Family Law Expert Valuation, both fixed, with no interstate loading on either report. See fees and inclusions.

Would the valuer have to travel to Perth for court?

Only if the valuer is required to give evidence, which applies to a Family Law Expert Valuation and not to a Settlement Valuation. Attendance is not part of either fixed fee. Remote attendance is $650 + GST per hour, four-hour minimum. Attendance in person in Perth is $6,500 + GST per day, plus travel and accommodation at cost. Whether the expert attends remotely or in person is decided by the Family Court of Western Australia, not by the valuer or the parties alone.
