Family Law Valuations

Family law business valuation in Sydney

Family Law Valuations is based in Double Bay, Sydney. It values privately owned businesses, companies, trusts, partnerships and professional practices for separating couples and their lawyers across Sydney, for negotiation, mediation and family law proceedings. The fees are the same in every state and territory: a Settlement Valuation is $2,495 + GST and a Family Law Expert Valuation is $4,495 + GST, both fixed and confirmed in writing before work starts.

Where we are in Sydney

The practice has one address: 377 New South Head Road, Double Bay NSW 2028. Meetings are by appointment, and phone hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (Sydney time).

A meeting is never required. A business valuation is built from the records: financial statements, tax returns, management accounts, the ownership documents and a conversation with the owner about how the business runs. Clients in the eastern suburbs, the city, the north shore, Parramatta and western Sydney are served the same way, and the whole engagement can be run by phone and document exchange.

Which court hears a Sydney family law matter

Family law property matters in New South Wales are heard by the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, which sits in Sydney and in other New South Wales locations. Not every matter reaches a hearing. Where the parties are negotiating or going to mediation, the Settlement Valuation is the report prepared for that purpose.

If your lawyer expects the value of the business to be put before the Court, the Family Law Expert Valuation is the report prepared for proceedings. Which report your matter needs is worth settling before anything is commissioned, because the two are prepared for different uses. The report finder gives an indicative starting point in two questions.

What a Sydney engagement looks like

It starts with a confidential enquiry or a free 15-minute consultation. We complete a conflict check, confirm the scope and the fixed fee in writing, and send a document checklist. For a Settlement Valuation the draft report follows within 5 to 7 business days after payment and receipt of all required information. For a Family Law Expert Valuation the delivery date is agreed before work begins.

If the valuer is later required to give evidence at a hearing in Sydney, attendance is charged separately at the rates on the fees page; it is not part of either fixed fee.

Can we meet the valuer in person in Sydney?

Yes, by appointment at 377 New South Head Road, Double Bay NSW 2028. A meeting is optional. An engagement can be completed from the records, with questions handled by phone.

How much does a family law business valuation cost in Sydney?

A Settlement Valuation for negotiation and mediation is $2,495 + GST, fixed. A Family Law Expert Valuation for family law proceedings is $4,495 + GST, fixed. Both apply to one reasonably straightforward business with complete and reliable records, and the scope is confirmed in writing before work starts. See fees and inclusions.

Do you only act for people in Sydney?

No. The practice is based in Sydney and works Australia-wide. Engagements outside Sydney are run remotely, on the same fees and the same process. See all locations.

Can both of us instruct you jointly?

Yes. A Settlement Valuation can be instructed by one party or by both, and a joint instruction means both receive the same checklist, the same draft and the same final report. For proceedings, a valuer is commonly appointed jointly as a single expert; this guide explains how that works.
