What is my business worth?

Enter the industry, annual revenue and, if you know it, normalised profit to see an indicative enterprise value range from typical bands, with every step of the arithmetic shown. The range is worked out in your browser, and nothing you type is sent or stored unless you ask for the breakdown by email.

The range is indicative arithmetic on typical bands for Australian small and medium businesses. It is not a valuation of your business: the earnings, the multiple and what sits outside operating value are all tested in a signed report.

In a family law matter the purpose of the report and the instructions are settled with your lawyer first; Which report do I need? explains the two reports.

Beyond the arithmetic

What a signed report adds

01.

Verified normalised earnings

Earnings taken from the financial statements and tax records, adjusted for a market salary for the owner, related-party arrangements and one-off items, with each adjustment explained.

02.

Evidence for the multiple

A multiple supported by evidence about the business, its risks and the market it operates in, rather than read from a typical band.

03.

The bridge from enterprise value to the value of the shares

Surplus cash, debt, working capital and assets outside operating value are identified and brought in, so the conclusion is the value of the interest actually held.

04.

Whether an earnings approach is the right method

A business with little or no maintainable profit, or one whose value rests on its assets or a forecast, may call for a different method, and the report says which and why.

05.

A stated purpose, basis and limitations

What the report was prepared for, the basis of value, the valuation date, the information relied on and the use it may be put to.
